Day 1 in Australia, after a delightful stopover in Singapore. The Aussie culture strikes me as midway between that of the US and the UK, on many spectra: more straightforward than the Brits, more positive, open, friendly. Those in the lab have a 'can-do' attitude like the Brits say the Yanks have. And they're less anti-American than the Brits. It's refreshing.
(Haven't quite gotten used to the accent yet, though....)
And I met my first non-American who says he 'likes the Midwest'! Amazing.
I give my talk in the lab tomorrow.
