OK here you go: pix of the wedding! It was a gorgeous weekend, all around. Both Amy's and Joshua's families are packed with really fun people, and I had a great time getting to know them. They're part of the River Brethren (no, they're not Amish!) who live in the lovely rural setting of Lancaster County, PA, although I know Amy from her days in med school at Cambridge. (I missed her terribly when she had to leave Cambridge, but now she's with Joshua in PA! I'm sure he's glad.) I stayed in the Strickler family farmhouse (10 kids!), which was indeed a most warm and hospitable haven, brimming with laughter and love, to echo ClassicalRyan's sentiments. I wish I had taken a good picture of the garden, which was transformed into a fairy land for the evening reception, replete with blazing torches surrounding the pond and paper lanterns glowing from the trees... not to mention the abundance of fresh flowers making a stunning backdrop while it was still light out. (Can you tell I was impressed??) If we're lucky, maybe photographer extraordinaire Picardy will grace us with a few scenic shots to give an impression of the reception. (Of course, he was also busy being best man, so he had a full day!)
Also striking was the hot, humid weather. It was real summer weather, unlike the pokey cold rain we've been having in Europe since April. I got back today and it felt like autumn here, after having enjoyed a few days of real summer. I will look forward to spending next summer in the USA!!
Here are a couple of Amy's sisters-in-law, hard at work on the canapes for the reception. I helped too.
Just a great atmosphere shot... rural PA, fresh tomatoes on the windowsill, the warm summer light, homey curtains... can you feel the summer breeze?
The wedding day!
Here's Amy with Joshua:
And Amy with me:
I even got to sing in a mini-choir for the reception. It was such fun singing harmony, songs I knew from Cambridge as well as from Csehy days way back when...
That's all, folks!
Now I'm back in Cambridge, and back to work, after a thoroughly refreshing short break. My supervisor is finally giving me some clearer direction about how to proceed with my PhD thesis, so I know where I'm headed. Hopefully I'm refreshed sufficiently to be productive now! I came back to good news about another paper being accepted for publication, so that's also a boost. Now to buckle down and get going on that thesis!!
We have had some real summer weather, that's for sure. Though this week the humidity broke and it's much more pleasant.
ReplyDeleteYou and Sabrina posted wedding pictures on the same day. Perhaps you remember the bride in Sabrina's pictures.
Work hard! Finish soon!
PS Lancaster is only like an hour north of here, you could've swung down, ya know!
I like you're description. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the wedding and being together. I miss you so much. It was great to see you again. Thank you SOOOOOOOO much for coming. We've started the count down till January!
