The Bumps!!

...is the biggest and most fun series of rowing races in Cambridge. (more explanation can be found here and results can be found here - but you have to scroll way down to the bottom.)

And I rowed in it today! It was a gorgeous day, and our crew was in good spirits and generally in good form... even though we got bumped, and so will start one place lower in tomorrow's race. Never mind. It was fun. :)

Here's proof:

The river can get fairly chaotic when crews bump and then don't get out of the way of oncoming traffic fast enough - the result can be crazy!

Here's our happy crew after the race, rowing back to the boathouse.

Here we are during the race (yellow blades for Clare Hall), being chased by the Selwyn second women (white blades). They're gaining on us. An unfortunate shot.

Here am I, back in seat 3, trying my best to keep in good form!

Our crew: the Clare Hall first women's VIII. At the end of the day, it was just a fun paddle around in the sunshine. (Hey, it beats lunchtime in the lab canteen...)

  1. Oh, I feel, so...so...British reading this post. Pip, pip! Three cheers for Eaton! Of course, Cambridge will win. (Eaton's just a "high school, right?)
